Been laying pretty low this summer due to injures .So been shoting/filming the local races around Okere Falls. Here is a small little edit I put together of the Andy Duff Memorial races a few weeks back. This was the 11th annual Andy Duff Race.

Along came the snow, along came the rain, along came the AQUAS BLANCAS! This was my first time down the Hagen Gorge and the North Fork of the Washougal River just outside of Camas, Washington near Portland, Oregon. It definitely had some water in it…a little over 8,000 cfs on the Washougal gauge made for some sporty lines and comical times. Enjoy the Hagen Gorge! Shot 100% on the GoPro Hero3+ Black. I have been using a Sweet Strutter on and off for the past 10 years. The Strutter is a M/L and fits great and I have on occasion tried on a M/L Sweet Rocker when in a kayak store but have always found them a little bit too snug. Last year I tried on the new “plastic” Rocker in L/XL and bought it. The best helmet will always be the one that offers you the best protection and fit.
The new Rocker is made from a plastic outer with carbon fibre re-enforment at key points. The padding is similar to that found in bicycle helmets and is covered with a lightly padded fabric cover. Self adhesive shims are supplied with the Rocker so you can customise the fit.

Voss Extreme Sports Veko – Monday – Kayaking from Southern Underground Productions on Vimeo.
In 2013 I was back in Norway filming and editing for Voss Ekstremsportveko. This time Tyler was there to help with some of the filming which was cool. The idea is that we kayak and make a film each day for 7 days so people who cant get out to see all the sports can come together at the end of each day after prize giving to see all the epicness! Day 2 of the week was out to a couple of drops that flow into the Raundalselva. Tunnel Drop and Kittlebreaker are stacked on top of each other and super rowdy! The river was cut underground to make way for the train to go over the lip of the waterfall making a tunnel for the river to flow through. A super unique drop! Over the next while ill be adding all the days videos for you to check out and get stoked for June 2014 Voss Extreme Sports Veko!

Snow has come early and the fall colors are in full swing. Leif Anderson and I still took the chance to get out and kayak Colorado’s Gore Canyon. Despite freezing temperatures, the water felt just fine.

For the last few years I have been using Adventure Medical as my main first aid kits. I stumbled upon them when I was trying to find an ultralight kit for mountain biking. Since then I have purchased several Adventure Medical First Aid Kits and they can be found in my rucksacks and now in my kayak as part of my “When it all goes wrong kit“.
Keeping warm is often difficult when you paddle whitewater during the winter. I find that the one area that is difficult to keep warm are my hands. I’ve tried neoprene gloves (which work once warmed up), the woollen/washing up glove combo and various other bits/bobs.
Many years ago I owned a pair of pogies (aka paddle mitts), I can’t remember the brand but they were blue/fluorescent yellow. They did a good job of keeping the wind off until they got wet, which meant my hands got wet and cold. Roll on ten years or so and I picked up a pair of Palm Rivertec Pogies. The ones pictured below are still used and must be well over 10 years old. Palm do a modern take on the Rivertec Pogies called River Tec Paddle Mitts
Pogies are designed to be fastened onto paddle shaft. Your hands go inside of the pogies and grip the paddle shaft as normal. Compared to wearing neoprene gloves or indeed any gloves at all improves the general feel and control. Some paddlers do find them restrictive as your hands need to be removed to access pockets, pull your spraydecks rip cord etc. In addition some designs can be difficult to get your “last” hand into.
This a Spyderco Tasman Salt. The blade is a rust resistant H1 steel. This knife has now found a new home in my PFD. A review will follow shortly.
