GoPro Battery Alternatives

I’ve been using both the OEM GoPro and Wasabi batteries in my GoPro 3 with great success. However this triple pack (at under £15) from Duragadget are also doing really well. Reviews from across the net are confirming my findings that they are definitely up to the job and are superb value.

I also have a GoPro battery BacPac in for test, to date this is working really well. I don’t like the additional weight when wearing the unit on my helmet, but when it’s on the boat or tripod it is spot on.

Training And The Art Of Becoming A Better Paddler

Training is something I don’t mention on the site as I believe if you are out paddling then that is as far as training needs to go. However a few bits and bobs have cropped up in conversation over the last few weeks that I thought I would get onto the site.

Dagger Redline – Review

The Dagger Redline as far as I am concerned is a solid performer that should not be overlooked. It has some of the best features of the Dagger RPM and the newer Axiom. The boat is table, forgiving and comfortable to paddle. By modern day standards the outfitting is basic but it is still effective. Getting a good fit isn’t hard.

Getting The Shot

Variety is the key. Shots from the same position of the play feature can become repetitive very quickly. If you are restricted by the location of your vantage point try holding the camera really high for the shot or drop down low. I use a Nikon d5100 which has a really useful flip screen that is ideal for unusual camera angles. It’s amazing what a difference this can make to shots of the same paddler/feature.

West Fork of the French Broad

It was sort of a West Fork kind of day. West Fork of the Pigeon in the morning and West Fork of the French Broad in the afternoon. I did this run nearly 20 years ago but with not nearly this much water. It was a great level. The second slide was the crux drop for us it really wanted to slam you in the right wall. What ever you do don’t scout on river left. The key to the drop was to be as right as you could be in the set up and then charge into the curling wave coming from the left. The boulder garden was holely for sure but good.
