Wipe Outs

When everything goes horribly wrong and you lose control of your craft you will wipe out. Depending on the size and nature of the wave this can be very spectacular, even painful, and may well involve lots of unintentional capsizes and cartwheels. If you don’t bail out of your boat, you’ll find your self being pushed sideways and bounced in towards the beach. This motion is known as the bongo slide, and mastering this skill is the first step towards feeling truly comfortable in the surf. Continue reading

Old School Series – Riot R1 & R2 Helmets

The Riot helmet is no longer produced and has been quite difficult to get hold of. They came in two varieties the R1 and R2. Shell sizes are standard with the amount of inner foam being the deciding factor on size.

Dagger Kingpin Icon – Review

The Kingpin Icon is a tweaked/updated version of Dagger’s Kingpin. On first glance it is very difficult to see what ia actually different. The Icon has been in Dagger’s line up for a number of years now and has been tweaked over the years. The boat I tried was a later model.

Its all about providing a quality arena in which kayakers can compete, a social atmosphere in which good company can be enjoyed and an event environment in which we can bring communities together.

Boof!

Boof is the name given to the technique used to run drops that may or may not have a shallow landing. It involves the paddler landing the kayak flat at the bottom of the drop. The name of the move comes from the sound the boat makes when it hits the water at the bottom of the drop.

Boat position, body position, paddle placement and good timing are required to get the boof just right.

Astral Brewer – Update

Since picking up a set of Astral Brewers last year they haven’t actually been used that much until quite recently. I also have a pair of Five Ten Water Tennies which I tend to wear with my drysuit and just love them so the Brewers haven’t seen much action. Which is unfair as the Brewers are a superb shoe. Read on….

We have had a small glimpse of summer so the shorts, short sleeved cag and Brewers have been put through there paces.
