After a couple of years off, the team from Caol Ila decided to have another shot at the Scottish Islands Peaks Race. For us who are not regular runners, it takes a fair bit of effort to get from practically zero fitness into a state where we feel we can take on the SIPR hills. This year we were helped by having a couple of new guys join the team for the first time: My friend Andy from Dundee Uni Rucksack Club days and his mate Dave, both of whom are proper hill runners (especially Dave).

Another Reno River festival is in the books, and it was an interesting one for sure. We started off the festivities in the Ninkasi Penthouse overlooking the WW park for judges meetings and a out of town boater party. Needless to say the beer was top notch and the parings of the different beers with good cheese was a nice high brow surprise for all us river bums. Saturday brought on the freestyle competition and some really funky weather.

Last Saturday saw the second annual British University Creek Race take place in Glen Etive. Perfect medium water levels allowed for a challenging but fun day of racing. The student race course was comprised of two runs of the middle Etive and a final lap of the Allt A’ Chaorainn. 23 students and 7 old boys took to the river with Callum Strong and Beth Morgan taking the student titles, while David Bain took the title in the old boys race. A quick mash up of footage from the Tees river race this weekend. Typically after all the rain we have had recently, this week has been dry and the Upper Tees was about as low as it gets but that didn’t stop a great turn out of 40 super keen north east paddlers.

Its been talked about for at least a year now. I’ve heard it from many different people but all of them talked about how good it would be to get a river race arranged in the north east. The Upper Tees has always been the most popular choice for this due to it always having at least some water in unlike any other river in the area but also being a pretty good option if it were to have some water in.
