River a Week, #10 WINion and The Fairy Glen

River a Week, #10 WINion and The Fairy Glen from Liam Chambers on Vimeo.

This video is proof that one can work 9-5:30pm and stil get great boating done in between work. 7:30pm on the way to the Wnion, Level was around 2.2 on the guage which meant is was super fun and interesting, And my first run down the Fairy Glen on the Conwy. Wasn’t my best performance, but hey had to be in work for 9:00am in Liverpool. Also part of my river a week project.

Thanks to Andy Butler for some footage (my GoPro broke) and paddling the rest of the Glen for me when I ran out of time.

UK Monsoon Season

For the last few years the weather in the UK around the end of July/beginning of August has provided some of the best whitewater conditions of the year. In some cases much better than in winter. So to all the boys and girls getting out onto this years summer white water – stay safe.

Val Sesia 2013

Since my first year of university I’ve always wanted to get out to the Italian Alps. Unfortunately the creeking season out there is usually in May which just happens to be university exam time. Finally, leaving uni and getting a proper job has it perks (besides the pay cheque).

Dave, Russell, Ben and me headed out earlier than most groups. The early trip combined with a huge snowpack for the year left us a little nervous that river levels would be too high and that we would miss out on the classic runs of the area. We all breathed a huge sigh of relief when we arrived to find everything on the high end of good. Perfect levels! Continue reading

Italian Alps – May 2013

Friend of Unsponsored and all round good guy Mark Mulrain has spent a bit of time this year finding some of the best whitewater in Italy. Enjoy.

Norway – Sjoa

One impression I seem to get about Norway is that it is rarely sunny, however since we have arrived in Sjoa the sun has been out constantly and its been 20+ degrees, score!

Norway – The Trip Continues

The past few days have been spent slowly making our way over towards Sjoa. Valldal turned out to be completely dry and even the low water runs were pretty empty so we made a quick getway from there.

Highlights would be the Bygdelva racecourse section although Sandra took a beat down and swim in a horrible slot like drop. Also the Upper Rauma, as well as the drive which has provided some amazing scenery.

Norway – The Road Trip

Okay so Saturday was actually our last day in Voss after we decided to hang around so that Sandra could do the boater X race. We knew that with her big guns and river racing tekkers that she would have no problem claiming a few prizes. Unfortunately the sneaky organisers saw her coming and added an upstream gate into the mix and even after some nice words of encouragement from us on the bank, that went a bit like “Sandra thou art paddling shit, go faster” she failed to catch the eddy. However she did come 3rd winning a lovely towel. Jenny won though so all is good.
