The new IR website is looking rather good. As is their new range of gear. Looking forward to having a chance to test some of the gear out.

Here’s a run down of a few of the things that kayakers, canoeists and SUP paddlers may like as a pressie from Father Christmas. All could be useful and all are items that I either own or have tested.
I am assuming that other large bits of kit are already on the list!
Some great colours from the folks at Jackson Kayak.

Although this guide is directed at students in reality it will apply to anyone thinking about taking up the sport. Over the next few weeks many students will be starting Uni and will be looking at joining a club. In most cases the Kayak/Canoe club in a university will be the best club to join.
The Big Sur wave on the Colorado River only comes in every 5 years or so when the snowpack is big enough to raise the flows on the Colorado in excess of 20,000cfs. Big Sur is a river wide party wave in a beautiful desert canyon that has everything from super shreddable pockets to mellow glassy rollers. When it came in during the early summer of 2014 Team Badfish rolled in and had some of the most fun sessions of the summer together. Continue reading
After the huge success of the Brewer and Brewess, Astral have developed a new shoe called the Loyak.
The Loyak has a much lower profile than the Brewer. The upper of the Loyak is constructed from 1000 denier Cordura Nylon and the sole is made of G.15 rubber (The replacement for 5:10 stealth rubber).
A few weeks ago the new Sweet Protection Supernova dry top arrived at Unsponsored HQ.
Keeping warm is often difficult when you paddle whitewater during the winter. The one area that is always difficult to keep one and can often lead to a great deal of pain is cold hands. Cold hands can turn a good trip into an absolutely terrible one and can leave you with damage to your hands if it occurs time and time again.
Making sure the rest of me is nice and warm does help but quite often the after the initial 30 mins on the water with super cold hands I get a surge of heat in conjunction with a super amount of pain as my hands begin to warm up. The pain is pretty unique!
I’ve tried neoprene gloves (which work once warmed up), the woollen/washing up glove combo and various other bits/bobs but prefer using pogies. One of the biggest benefits of any pogie or glove system is the fact they help keep the wind off your hands. This simple fact goes a long way to ensure that your hands remain warm.
The last Palm dry top I owned was probably a River Tec number from over 10 years ago. Since then I have been using Immersion Research or Sweet. I was therefore pretty intrigued by the new crop of Palm dry tops including the Palm Zenith.
I managed to get photo of the month for July 2013 in the Paddler magazine. The image was taken using a Nikon D5100 at the Tees Barrage International Whitewater Course during the Palm Big Paddle.
This months edition is out now with 160+ pages of paddling goodness!
Check out my thoughts on the new school/old school Pyranha Loki.
