Sweet Protection – Hunter Shorts

For ever and a day I have been using Oakley MTB shorts for all biking duties. They have been my favourite and served me well. However I managed to get hold of some Sweet Protection Hunter shorts to test and have been blown away by the fit, function and design.

So what is so special. Well they fit really well, plenty of adjustment and the fabric has just that little bit of stretch that helps whilst pedalling. Not too tight and not too baggy (for a pair of baggies!). Length wise they sit just over the knee and are wide enough to accommodate knee pads without any issues.

At long last, the full story behind the first descent of Sambaa Deh falls in the Northwest Territories. Leif and Natalie are joined by Ben Ghertner for a waterfall tour. This video is a tongue-in-cheek documentary about the kayak exploration of the region.

Tyne Tour (Festival) 2014

I spent a few hours of today sat on Rescue Rock on the North Tyne (UK), water levels were good and the sun was out for most of the day. Thousands of images taken here are just a few.

Who are you? Tell us a little about Rowan Stuart.

I’m Rowan, I’m 18 years old, and I really enjoy kayaking. I grew up in small-town North Carolina, and it happens to be one of the few things to do here. I would say my list of priorities has kayaking in spot #1, eating in spot #2, and sleeping as #3. Unfortunately I also go to college, so now getting my schoolwork done has to fall in there somewhere.

How did you first get into kayaking? Who introduced you to the sport?

My parents were definitely the first people to get me interested in kayaking, I remember watching some old videos, absolutely never considering that one day I could be running things like that.

Dewerstone Life Shorts – First Look

These shorts are what kicked off the production of the new Unsponsored Ts by Dewerstone. I had stumbled upon a post about Dewerstone’s campaign to raise funds to get the shorts into production via Kickstarter. I had heard/seen a fair bit about Kickstarter but this was the first time that I was motivated to invest.

Unsponsored Q&A Series – Ross Montandon

Ross Montandon is fortunate enough to spend most days on the water. He has paddled extensively around the world; competed in World Championships, become British Freestyle Champion, and is one of the youngest ever Level 5 coaches. He created New Wave Kayaking which offers extensive whitewater kayak coaching, to help paddlers really enjoy their paddling! After an initial contact a couple of months back Ross kindly agreed to take part in the Unsponsored 2014 Q&A series. I am so pleased that Ross has taken the time out of his busy schedule to take part in the Q&A. Hope you enjoy the read, I certainly did.

Sweet Intergalactic Drysuit – Review

Sweet Protection showcased the new Intergalactic Dry Suit at this year’s (2014) OR show. Last year Unsponsored tried out a final pre-production model.

Unsponsored - Sweet Intergalactic Dry Suit 1

Sweet have been in the whitewater game for years but the Sweet Intergalactic marks their first and long awaited move into the dry suit arena. The Sweet Intergalactic is built from Gore-Tex Pro material and is backed onto a fabric that is both supple and tough. The Gore-Tex used is the 3 – layer Performance variety that is designed for extreme and extended use. I have a number of bits of kit, including a Sweet Shadrach made out of the same material and although it feels quite soft I know that it will take a beating and come back for more.
