SUP Silver Creek California

Fletcher Burton stand up paddling (SUP) South Silver Creek in California. A superb achievement. This SUP stuff has mileage.

image

Video of Fletcher Burton’s epic stand up paddling (SUP) descent of South Silver Creek’s 600 foot per mile section. South Silver has always allured whitewater enthusiasts to it’s granite paradise of waterfalls and slides. It was no surprise to us when Fletcher called and wanted to try it’s first SUP descent. The sport of SUP has migrated inland and continues to grow with new vertical descents. Determined to take these “limits” to an entirely whole new level, Fletcher charged it and attempted every drop at least twice (even with a busted leg after Skyscraper).

Store Ula 1-5 Eat It

Store Ula 1-5 Eat It

A quick run on the Store Ula waterfalls #1-5. It’s kinda easy to get sidetracked by # 4 but trust me # 5 is a bitch. It’s got a shallow lead in, the line doesn’t excatly send you out the right way and there’s quite a uncomfortable cave at the bottom… ah well, sometimes you’ll just have to eat it! Thanks for Olli and Jobst for pulling me outathere…

Norway With River

Regulars to Unsponsored will know that now and again Unsponsored’s little brother River (Militia) breaks out of his maximum security stockade. Last year he made it all the way to Norway. We haven’t been able to release the video edit until now due to a number of international incidents that took place on the way to Norway.

Anyway, he was on the run in Norway for four whole weeks and in that time managed to hit a number of Norwegian classics.

Northern Territory – River Swale

The Swale, for many the most enjoyable, hassle free section of Class 4 (occasionally 5) in the UK. It’s all down to preference of course, however, a little time invested in this true classic normally leaves paddlers with a beaming smile.

River Swale

At its source, about 2 miles upstream of Keld, the Swale picks up pace and, set amongst some stunning scenery and isolated gorges, this river drops like a stone and often rises just as quickly: we recently witnessed the river rising 50cm within the hour it took us to complete the run. It rose a further 10cm in the time it took to get changed and do a shuttle; a factor that should be borne in mind when paddling this stretch after heavy rainfall. Potentially difficult to judge accurately, running this little gem has been made much more reliable since the introduction of the environment agency river levels gauge. This provides the source data for the invaluable Rainchasers site (http://rainchasers.com/river): an excellent information resource for which we are enormously grateful to Rob Tuley and crew supporting the site.
