The Hiko Guardian 3.D PFD is the latest fully featured PFD from Hiko. It is an anatomically shaped rescue PFD with a tonne of features. This one was supplied by the guys at Good 2 Go Paddlesport.
The Guardian 3D is a side entry PFD with a wrap around structure.
The right hand side straps can be unclipped to give maximum access.
Both side parts float in the two channels shown above. The life hand side it retained with some elastic to allow for adjustment and movement.
Fully adjustable and padded straps can be found on the shoulders. The buckles stay hidden in the neoprene sleeve but can be access as they are tucked away with the use of an elasticated strap.
D-Rings can be found at the bottom of both shoulder straps and both sides of the clam shell pocket. These are fixed D-rings with no splits.
A large front clam shell pocket with zipper entry is compartmentalised for easy access and features an inner zipper.
The knife attachment point includes a neoprene sleeve to tuck the end of the knife into. This keeps the knife accessible whistle at the same time reducing the chances of it snagging on something. For example when climbing back into a raft.
The outer zipped pocket also has a tie in point for keys etc.
A neoprene pocket located on the shoulder accommodates an integrated safety whistle (supplied). How many modern high end PFDs come with a whistle. Not many.
Tucked behind the clamshell is a fleeced lined tunnel to help keep your hands warm when waiting around.
The PFD here is L/XL and has 85N of flotation which is pretty impressive given its low bulk.
RRP for the Hiko Guardian 3D is £180 here in the UK.
