Welcome to Movie Monday 10 April 2017. It’s been a dry week in the NE of the UK so not much boating. Thankfully the GoPro equipped massive have been finding the water. Their efforts and adventures can be seen right here on Unsponsored.

I have just finished watching the full version of Chasing Niagara (just over 1 hrs worth of action). It has been available for a while via iTunes at a cost. However it is currently available to watch for free on Red Bull TV.
CHASING NIAGARA follows Rafa Ortiz, a celebrated pioneer of big waterfall kayaking, as he pushes himself to the limit and redefines his sport by daring to dream the impossible – successfully descending Niagara Falls. To prepare for this highly dangerous drop, Ortiz enlists a team of fellow professional kayakers, including Rush Sturges, Evan Garcia, and Tyler Bradt, to help him train and document the process. As they take on lightning fast rapids and massive waterfalls in exotic locales, they soon find that what started as one man’s epic quest, evolves into an intense three-year journey of self-discovery and friendship that forces them to redefine their own definitions of bravery, purpose, and ambition.
Huge waterfalls, near death experiences all captured in such a way that makes Chasing Niagara appealing to both paddlers and non-paddlers. In terms of the way in which Chasing Niagara has been put together and the action within it, it is probably the best kayak related video I have seen.
The GoPro Hero5 Session is GoPro’s latest small from factor POV action camera. Building on the success of the Session GoPro have packed 4k capability and video stabilisation into this small package. This make the GoPro Hero5 Session the perfect helmet POV camera.
One of the biggest areas that is overlooked when getting a video/camera setup for trips out is the speed of the your SD or Micro SD card. If you have just picked up one of these news cameras you might well be asking what is the best memory card for the GoPro Hero5 Session.
As cameras have become more capable the need for faster cards with greater capacity has become more important.
Friend of Unsponsored Dale Mears has put together a neat little walkthrough review of the new GoPro Hero 5 black edition.
Continue readingHere is my GoPro Hero 5 Black edition hands on review. Features a walk through of the cameras features and some stills taken whilst whitewater kayaking and some raw footage.
We have both the GoPro Hero5 Black and Hero5 Session here at Unsponsored HQ for review. Since the release of the Session we haven’t used the Unsponsored Hero4 Black edition so I was interested to see how the the new Hero5 compares.
Firstly the Hero5 takes on some of the features of the Session. This includes the lack of case and the use of the frame, one button video/photo and improved sound capabilities. The footage capability of the Hero5 is reportedly not that much different to the Hero4, it does have a better sensor and is supposed to be much better in lowlight so we’ll have a good compare once we have a set of side by side shoots. The biggest improvement has been with image stabilisation and we are looking forwarding to checking that out.
One of the biggest areas that is overlooked when getting a video/camera setup for trips out is the speed of the your SD or Micro SD card. Now this doesn’t matter if your camera is a GoPro, Contour, Garmin, Sony or whatever because without a good memory card you may struggle to capture the video footage you want.
As cameras have become more capable the need for faster cards with greater capacity has become more important.
SD Speed Class
The Speed Class Rating is the official unit of speed measurement for all SD cards, including both full and micro sized versions. Speed Class is a minimum speed based on a worst case scenario test and represents the minimum transfer rate of data that the card is capable of.
Movie Monday 22 August 2016 is here with a bang. We’ve selected a few edits that we have stumbled across over the last couple of days for your viewing pleasure. Hopefully they will go some way to numbing the pain of being at being back at work or study on a Monday morning. However if all of the following edits don’t fulfil your whitewater needs check out all of our Movie Mondays. There are quite a few!
Enjoy!
Dale Mears has put this clever little GoPro above and below water housing together that is perfect for getting those 50/50 underwater/overwater shots that are often seen online.
It’s bank holiday here in the UK with many people (not all) having an extra day off before going back to work on Tuesday. So a little bit later due to a longer lie in here is Movie Monday 30 May 2016.
