Tyne Tour 2018 – Part I

The North Tyne was showing a pretty consistent 0.88 on the gauge for the first day of the Tyne Tour 2018. These shots were taken between 12 and 2.30pm.

I took 1000s and have high resolution and no watermark copies available.

What Memory Card For My Nikon DSLR?

We are big fans of the Nikon range of cameras at Unsponsored HQ and have worked our way from the Nikon D70 through to the Nikon D500 over the past few years. All of the images taken for the site have been taken with a Nikon camera of one sort or another. Mid 2016 we added the Nikon D500 to the gear list. We wanted a fast, and good low light performer that would be able to cope with the varying conditions we often find ourselves in. As we had been shooting with Nikon DX bodies for so long we had a good range of glass to use with the D500 but needed a new (to me) type of memory card as the D500 runs both a SD and XQD card.

Tyne Tour 2016

A cold and wet day was had sitting on rescue rock yesterday. Water levels on the North Tyne were not bad and were on the rise for the whole day. It was great to see so many new paddlers take to the water and take on the challenge of Wardens Gorge.

Tyne Tour 2016

There didn’t seem to be as many capsizes at the bottom of the gorge as usual but quite a few at the very top with a number of paddlers ending up swimming the entire gorge.

Tyne Tour 2015

If you were on the North Tyne today from 11.00am through to 3.30pm the chances are I have a photograph of you or your group. Water levels were sitting at around 0.9 on the gauge but the water was rising throughout the afternoon.

Tyne Tour 2015

Heavy rain in the area has sent all of the main ww rivers mad. The North Tyne, South Tyne, Tees, and Swale are all on the rise. So Sunday looks like pick and mix of classic northern whitewater. Make your choice.

Giottos Vitruvian Tripod – Review

For a number of years I have managed perfectly without the need of a tripod for my camera work. I say managed as I never really had seen a need for a tripod when my arms work just fine. However after trying a number of tripods and settling on the Giottos Vitruvian I can now appreciate that a tripod has a home within my kayaking camera kit.

Giottos Vitruvian Review

I wanted a system that was light, could handle getting wet and would be a sound investment. After much reading I settled on the Giottos Vitruvian carbon tripod with the MH5400 head and MH652 quick release plate.

Which SD Card For My Action Camera?

One of the biggest areas that is overlooked when getting a video/camera setup for trips out is the speed of the your SD or Micro SD card. Now this doesn’t matter if your camera is a GoPro, Contour, Garmin, Sony , Nikon or whatever because without a good memory card you may struggle to capture the video footage you want.

The Speed Class Rating is the official unit of speed measurement for all SD cards, including both full and micro sized versions. Speed Class is a minimum speed based on a worst case scenario test and represents the minimum transfer rate of data that the card is capable of.

White Water & Wild Colours

I just love the combination of the vibrant colours used in kayaking and shapes/forms the water takes. I have always been into photography but I am really enjoying looking back through my kayaking images and looking for the detail in the drops of water and splashes.
