URSA Low Light 80fps Tests

Shooting fast action in floodlit conditions takes some serious kit and dedication. Simon Wyndham from Five Element Productions used a Blackmagic URSA to shoot some great footage at Cardiff International Whitewater Centre.

Pyranha Fest 2014

DL_fish300

Pyranha Fest seems to get bigger and better every year, and 2014 was no exception!

The usual jam packed weekend of fun competitions, exciting events and one-of-a-kind courses was made even more special by many people’s first opportunity to try out the Pyranha 9R, which really shook up the BoaterX event! Continue reading

Matthew Carey and Mega Swimmer found the glen too low. They decided to check this beauty out just up the road to find it was running at a sweet level. Continue reading

Bitching It Up

10616642_10152615375262427_5355992012801572400_n

For many years I’ve wanted to get to the Bitches, the famous tidal playwave spot in South-West Wales that hosted the inaugural world rodeo freestyle event, back in the day when the boats were metres long and pop-outs, paddle-twirls and fluorescent colours were all the rage. Being warned that my carbon Black Sheep wouldn’t surive being seal-launched, and with the tide being about 6.5m, the Rockstar probably wasn’t the boat to take either so I asked Aaron at Squarerock if I could borrow the Jackson FunRunner I took to the Grand Canyon, this long boat would make a perfect surf vessel.

Just a pretty chilled blast down the Dee whilst the levels were good, Only saw two other boaters on the water!

Three Waves Nose Plugs/Clips

I’ve been using Smiley nose plugs for longer than I care to remember and have never moved away from them. I am a firm believer in the use of nose plugs and each of my helmets has (had) a Smiley nose plug attached and they have served me well. However that may have just changed with the arrival of these new nose plugs from Three Waves.

I Wouldn’t Swim There If I Were You

Another great piece and sound advice from Unsponsored friend Liam Chambers.

I wouldn’t swim there if I were you. from Liam Chambers on Vimeo.

Awkward series of roll attempts lead to a swim on the Aberglaslyn Gorge. Resulting in ending up in an undercut rock at the side of “Leg breaker”. This is where safety and rescue courses and practising using those skills becomes real.

SWIMMMMMER!

Getting High On The Ogwen

River A Week, #12 Salty Mouth – Stanley Embankment + Stacks

Screen Shot 2013-08-31 at 21.14.58

Just a quick video edit from last weeks paddling on Stanley and a quick sea paddle. Tides were on springs and a 9.7m tide meant Stanley was good but only for a very short time before getting a little messy. Still worth a play though. Also a journey on the sea against the tide using back eddies and surfing to get round the headlands on Anglesey.

Good paddling despite there being no rainfall!
