Broken Wahoo Kickr – How Bad?

What happens if your Wahoo Kickr breaks and you keep riding it?

Kevin Biggs managed to get a cheap Wahoo Kickr that the original owner had listed as damaged and needing repair.

This Kickr had suffered the classic loose woodruff key which led to lots of banging and clunking when the trainer was used. The loose key means that the bearings can move in a way they aren’t meant to, which means they eventually fail.

The following images and words are from Kevin.

The guy ran the trainer for me and it had the usual clonking noise. When I got it home and the cover off it wasn’t obvious what the problem was. I had to hammer the fly-wheel shaft through using a sacrificial bolt screwed in to hit.

Wahoo Kickr 18 And Kickr Core Repair

Wahoo Kickr 18 Repair
Wahoo Kickr Core Repair

I have had Wahoo turbo trainers for the last few years. The first being the Kickr Snap which worked well but its resistance would fluctuate quite a bit depending on tyre pressure and air temperature.

I decided in January 2019 to get a wheel off Kickr 18 as I really like riding on Zwift and the wheel off meant that I could almost fit and forget.

Within a couple of weeks the unit began to display the clunking and clicking that many units had suffered. The flywheel was also running with a bit of a wobble. A replacement arrived a few days after raising a support ticket and submitting a short video of the issue.

I have been using that replacement ever since and have covered almost 2000km on it for almost the last year and a half.

Last week it started to make a few slight noises that I didn’t like the sound of and a vibration could be detected through the pedals. The noise was a slight click and a rubbing/squeal from the belt drive. The squeal was noticeable when the flywheel was coming to a stop.

GoPro Lens Caps

Replacement parts are available for all of the GoPro range but I prefer to try and prevent any damage particularly when the camera and case are in my bag. One of easiest parts to damage is the lens of both the camera itself and the lens area on waterproof case. Damage to either of these will ruin footage.

GoPro Hero 4 Warranty

Given the number of GoPro related posts on this site it is pretty obvious that I am a huge GoPro fan and always have a couple of cameras on the go.

My latest camera, purchased just after release, is a GoPro Hero 4 black edition. Lats week I noticed that the silver fascia of the camera was cracked. The camera is only used in its housing and I can’t recall ever dropping the camera.
