I really like the way the rails allow you to carve hard without stalling and tripping you up unlike the old burn, making it easy to fine tune lines and snap into eddies. It has quite a flat hull which allows it to surf easily, staying high on features and keeping you in control as you move laterally across the flow which is really cool. It has the Connect 2014 outfitting it comes with which allows the seat to be varied in both height and pitch. I have this set in the highest position, with the largest block installed under the front of the seat to really lock me in which works well, even though I’m the bottom end of the weight range. Seeing as I have the attention span of a gnat, I’m considering swapping out for a 9R to get some speed in my life.

Helmet: I’ve been rocking a full face Sweet Trooper on anything harder than the T for a fair while now, which no one has ever taken the piss about. I tested my original to destruction in Norway this summer; seeing as my brain stayed inside my skull and the money maker is still as gorgeous as ever I’m waiting for the lads at ROHO to stick me a shiny new one in the post.

BA/PFD: Astral Greenjacket all the way. It feels like it sits under my chin when I’m standing around but is super comfy when paddling.

Spraydeck: IR Royale. It’s super dry and super tough. It has the old style handle which is harder to grip, but IR are currently replacing the handle with a grippy new version (for free – LADs!).

Boots: I still haven’t found anything that doesn’t fall apart. The soles fell off my Astral Rasslers (which were great for the 10 days before that) and I now have a new set of Brewers to try.

Blades: Glass Werner Powerhouses, 200cm, 45deg. Standard and bombproof.

Thermals: IR Union Suit – Super warm, comfy and quite fragrant.

Dry kit: IR Supermodel. It’s light, comfy and the driest suit I’ve ever used. Excited to get my shiny new Arch Rival cag in the post for Mexico this xmas, should be ace teamed up with some IR board shorts and my disgusting old neoprene shorts.

Upcoming adventures: As many laps of the Glen as I can get of course! I’m headed to Mexico for Christmas because warm waterfalls trump turkey and next year I’m planning to go back to Italy & Norway before heading to BC at the end of summer. I’d quite like some warm big water too… Zam anyone?
