Dagger Nomad – First Paddle

I had the opportunity to have a brief paddle of the new 2016 Dagger Nomad (#newmad) last week. This particular shell is the Prototype V3 which is pretty much what the production model will be like.

Dagger Nomad - First Paddle

I had first seen the Newmad in the flesh at Paddle Expo and since posting those images taken at the time it has been pretty clear, from the associated statistics from Unsponsored, that this boat has a great number of people very interested.

But what are my initial thoughts?

Welding – A Review

Over the last two weeks I have welded up a number of boats here at Unsponsored HQ. So I thought I would share some of the work carried out “Welding – A Review” if you like.

The first boat a Dagger Mamba was welded twice. Once on the nose which also included getting a huge dent out and again on the hull under the seat.

Who are HB Canoes & Kayaks? Tell us a little about the company and its history.

HB Canoes and Kayaks is Herefordshire and Borders Canoes and kayaks, a long name which does not fit in forms on on cheques very often but was used because it described the area we aimed to serve.

The company owned by Philippa and Paul Hale started out in 2004 (TEN years ago!) and was basically a farm diversification that spawned from Philippas family connections in the marine, boating and paddlesport sectors. At the time they knew they wanted to do something different utilising the farm space they had, and that was when the seed of a canoe and kayak shop was planted. It was discussed that there was nobody in this area, servicing the paddlers of the Wye Valley and Welsh Border. After a lot of research it was decided that it was a great idea.

Huge water! An epic little run.

Screen Shot 2014-11-21 at 19.40.15

Here’s Ben Marr and myself going down bridge rapid in Dolbeau-Mistassini. It was my 3rd descent. The water was very high and the line juicy and technical. We got both destroyed in different holes… The sunset was epic, especially from the hole perspective! It was a dream to run it at that flow (1300cumecs), we were aiming for 2300 but we missed the window… can’t wait for spring 2015… Continue reading
