UK Canoe specialists Silverbirch have been developing some exciting new products for 2018.
This includes a new composite material.
Travis Overtstreet has put together this awesome Silverbirch Covert with the help of Matt Toddhunter and Shawn Alexander. The setup allows Travis to swap out the saddles for either solo or tandem use.
Kelvin from Silverbirch canoes gives a great run down on how to outfit a canoe with lacing, airbags and gab loops.
There have been a few images on the net showing the production setup of the new Rebel canoe by UK company Silverbirch.
The following video shows the Silverbirch Canoes Rebel Prototype in action.
Silverbirch Canoes have now got the Covert 10.5 available in both tandem and solo outfitting setups.
Check it out.
UK based Silverbirch have been developing a new version of their super popular Covert OC1. The Silverbirch Covert Tandem retains the original Coverts superb handling but has been increased in size to take another paddler.
The Covert tandem at this stage is very much a prototype but Silverbirch will be bringing this to the market once the design has been further developed and tweaked.
For the last few years the eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed that many of my own personal boats have been orange.
This started with Liquidlogic Vision, followed by the Liquidlogic Squirrel and the Spade Kayaks Ace of Spades. In addition to this I have paddled orange boats back to back with other colours from all major manufacturers.
If you had noticed you may have thought that there is simply just an orange thing going on, but I can assure you that this is not the case. You may have also noticed that many of Corran Addison’s new Soul Waterman designs are only available in either yellow or orange.
You may be sat there right now nodding your head in agreement. If you look at all of the major kayak and canoe manufacturers you will see that orange kayaks have featured within all of their recent ranges. Look at some of the new manufacturers that have sprung up over the last few years – Titan, Silver Birch and Soul Waterman to name just a few. All of their new designs have been available in orange, they could have chosen just about any colour for their line ups. All of this has not occurred accidentally.
Big news from Esquif. Liquidlogic will be producing the next line of Esquif canoes in their facility based in Asheville NC.
PRESS RELEASE:
Esquif International Announces Partnership with Liquidlogic Kayaks
Esquif International is excited to announce that Liquidlogic Kayaks in Asheville, NC will now be manufacturing the hulls for the Esquif L’Edge Lite. “Liquidlogic has a reputation for doing fantastic roto-molding work and we want our customers to have the very best from Esquif.” said Esquif International, founder and owner, Jacques Chassé.
Availability for the L’Edge Lites will be mid-May as the first shipment of hulls to leave Asheville is expected May 1, 2016.
In mid-May the first T-Formex boats will ship from Esquif International headquarters in Frampton, Quebec. Chassé and his team are being kept very busy as they ramp up the T-Formex production. Partnering with Liquid Logic makes sense, they do some of the best roto-molded manufacturing available and Esquif wants to be proud to put their name on every boat they produce.

Until recently, I didn’t realise how much South Wales could offer in terms of open canoeing day trips. I’d heard of the classic Wye tours but did not realise just how much there is to paddle there: From meandering grade 1 to technical grade 3, something for everyone! I had the opportunity to spend some time down there and between walking and caving, I managed to borrow a subtle lime green canoe and sample some of many stretches of Welsh goodness.
Late last year I had the opportunity to visit the Pyranha factory here in the UK.
I had never been to a plastic kayak/canoe manufacturing site before so I did not know what I should expect.
The plastic used in the factory to create the kayaks arrives in powder format. For some reason I had always thought that the plastic would be in the form of chips or small pellets. The first misconception of the day was blown away.
I managed to have a closer look at the Broadland and Covert canoes a couple of weeks ago. Both designs look really well thought out and have been very well made.
Silverbirch canoes are made by the guys behind Tootega and are therefore designed and built right here in the UK. They currently have two canoe models in the range, The Broadland and the Covert 9.3 OC1.
The Broadland is constructed from either Duracore or Duralite three-layer polyethylene.
